P.R.E.M. REPORT 2001
PRESBYTERIAN REFORMED EDUCATIONAL MINISTRY

Responsibilities:

  1. To develop and coordinate a calendar of projects, missions and activities of Christian nurture for our church.
  2. To conduct an annual review of the education program of our church.

Membership:

Representatives from every committee of our church meet on-an as needed basis.

Activities:

  1. Educational Review - May Children's Work Committee and the Youth Committee reviewed and discussed urgent curriculum needs. Teachers from the seventh & eighth grades were invited to the meeting and had good suggestions and comments. All agree we need more parental involvement with the youth activities, and teachers need the backup of parents and the congregation. Member Care committee reported a concern of getting nursery assistants at the 11:00 AM service.
  2. Preparing the Presence - December An annual intergenerational event held on Dec. 2, the first Sunday in Advent. All ages participated in making various gifts to help brighten another's Christmas. There was much laughter and Joy as cookies for shut-ins were baked- by- little elves covered in flour. Greens were assembled for F.R.E.E. Christmas cards and bookmarks sent to our college students, messages sent to friends who have moved away and the bereaved, canvas totes were filled with toiletries for a battered women's shelter, angels were decorated and hung on the tree to remind us of our Adopted Angels, ornaments were created for residents at Smithtown Health Facility, and trees were assembled, lights and all. In closing we gathered in the sanctuary to be welcomed by Rev. Jeffrey Wood and a service led by Laurie Barry-and Diane Trubia. Jeffrey dedicated "our gifts" and Trudy Engel read a story "Why the Xmas Cat Glows" about being the smallest, who others push aside and the Savior who lifts up and smiles upon. Admission to the event is the gathering of gently used children's books for Seabury Barn and social services, warm winter coats, and health care items for Seabury Barn.
  3. Angel Fellowship Hour - Dec. We co-hosted with the Children's Work Committee a "Happy Birthday Jesus" celebration and Adopt an Angel fellowship. A special thank you to our angel cookie bakers: Becky Wagenhauser, Gwen Johnston, Jean Danz, Janice Meany, Velma Teichert, and any others I have missed naming. A joyous, noisy time was had by all, as we watched the Adopt an Angel gifts pile up around us.
  4. Church Calendar - The gathering of information from all committees as to projects, missions and activities all during the year. There is a P.R.E.M. mailbox-in the hall for such information to be collected. The purpose is to keep each committee informed and to help in planning within their committees. It is an important tool in working together as one church.

Respectfully submitted
