PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN ANNUAL REPORT 2006

The PW Purpose: Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study, to support the mission of the church worldwide, to work for justice and peace, and to build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (USA) and witnesses to the promise of God's Kingdom.

PW had another busy and fruitful year.  We have an active membership of over 60 women, a coordinating team of 11, and four circles that meet monthly. Officers are: Co-Moderators - Dawn Agostini and Timmi Nalepa; Secretary - Sandy Castaldi; Treasure - Claudia Falk.  PW raises all its own funds from its members and fundraisers.

The year in review:

January - Blanket Sunday collected over $2200 for blankets that are used for emergency relief throughout the world.  World Church Services provides blankets for disasters.

February - Gathering - We assembled school kits and health kits for Church World Service to send out when and where needed.  We also made cards and sent candy to the Abused Women's Shelter.

April - Held our Spring Fundraiser, a Spring Fashion Show and Dinner with Fashions by Dress Barn.  It was a fun evening.

May - We supplied and served cake to the 2006 confirmation class and their families after the Confirmation Church service

June - The Program year ends and all of our circles celebrate with special luncheons or dinners.

September - Our Fall Bible Study Kick-Off was again on a Fri. night with dinner and communion service. Marie Zupka-Ludder led the service with co-moderators Dawn and Timmi,  The end of Sept. we traveled to Holmes Camp and Conference Center for our annual weekend retreat.  It was lead by Minister Jeanne Baum and was a lively and thought provoking weekend.  In the past, our retreats have been during the Spring.  Everyone seemed to enjoy holding our retreat during a different season.

November - Holiday Shopping Extravaganza - not only a very successful fundraiser, but another way to open our church to the community.  This fundraiser included home party representatives, a bake sale, and the Scholastic Book sale.

December - The Christmas Gathering provides another social event for all circle members and any women of the church to join together and celebrate the season.  A Christmas program intermingled with a delicious covered dish dinner buffet was served.  At this event, we also collect toiletries and other essentials for Seabury Barn, a local teen shelter.  The Greeting Tree in the Narthex is an alternative way to send warm wishes to church friends and all donations provide funds for Campus Ministries at Stony Brook University.

Some other missions we supported during the year are:  Bread for the World, Buckhorn Children's Foundation, FREE, Church Women United, Long Island PW, Adopt an Angel, Migrant Workers, The El Salvador Project, and the Presbyterian Medical Benevolence Fund. We continued the Dorothy Ryder Mission Fund and the Arlene Pangburn Scholarship Fund as a way to honor these two model Presbyterian Women of First Presbyterian Church of Smithtown.
