Adult EducationCommittee 2006
The Adult Work Committee's
responsibility is to plan and implement educational programs for the adult
members of the Church. The following is a summary of the programs sponsored
during 2006:
BIBLE STUDY: There were three series of Bible Study this year. The first, "Life Story, Faith Journey", featured people of other faiths who had unusual life stories to share with us.
The second, a Kerygma Program, "Sowing Tears, Reaping Joy" based on Brahms German Requiem, was led by Catherine Wallace.
The third, "Growing in the Life of Faith", was led by Pastor Hulsey.
BOOK GROUP: The following books were discussed throughout the year: "My Sister's Keeper", "Ishmael", "The Kite Runner", and "The Nicholas Effect". The fifth evening, a movie night, was an intergenerational event featuring "The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe" from C.S.Lewis' "Chronicles of Narnia". A discussion period followed the presentation.
ENCOURAGEMENT OF HOME DEVOTIONS AND BIBLE STUDY: The committee continued to pursue this theme during the year with handouts regarding daily Bible readings at the Christmas and Easter seasons. A daily Bible reading guide from the American Bible Society was also distributed.
ADDITIONAL OPPPORTUNITIES FOR OUTSIDE EVENTS:
- Visits to Little Portion Friary for Harvest Festival
- Labyrinth Walks
- Visit to Riverhead Baptist Church for annual Christmas Music
As hosts of the Fellowship Hour in September, we took the opportunity to inform the church of our future plans through a display of books, Bible Study materials, schedule of programs and posters.
