HIGHLANDERS 2006 ANNUAL
REPORT
The Highlanders is the Social Organization of the the First Presbyterian Church of Smithtown, and as such is responsible for providing social events, activities and opportunities for the congregation. Highlander events are open to all adult member of the congregation and guests. They are advertised on our Bulletin board in the hall, in the weekly Bulletin, and in Tidings (The monthly newsletter of the First Presbyterian Church of Smithtown). Occasional intergenerational activities are also planned.
The planning committee of the Highlanders meets on the 4th Tuesday of each month at members' homes. Planning meetings are advertised in Tidings and in the weekly Bulletin, and are open to any interested members of the congregation. Anyone who would like to attend a planning meeting to find out more about the Highlanders is encouraged to contact the host for the month or any member of the planning committee. We welcome new people to the planning committee and look forward to seeing YOU at the next planning meeting or Highlander event.
This year we hosted Fellowship Hour, attended a "Night of Music and Memories" at Hauppauge High School, "The African Dance Theater" and "The Best of Broadway presents Hooray for Hollywood" at Suffolk Community College, "The Sound of Music" at Creative Ministries in Oakdale, and "The Long Island Sound Chorus" and Christmas Concert at Five Towns College in Dix Hills.
We took a bus trip to St. John the Divine and had lunch at Carmine's, had a lovely Lady Liberty Dinner Cruise to the Statue of Liberty, and enjoyed the Sunset Cruises on the Port Jeff Ferry during July and August. Our outings continued on a beautiful day trip sailing from Greenport.
Our Progressive Bar-be-cue was again well attended, and we enjoyed music "under the stars" with the New York Philharmonic at Heckscher State Park, and various concerts at the Smithtown Library. We attended "The Greatest Band of the Greatest Generation " at the Patchogue Theater, and ended the year with a dinner theater evening at the The Country Kitchen and "The Nuncracker" at the Smithtown Theater.
For the Holidays, we assembled 20 gift bags of personal items for residents of Brighter Tomorrows, as shelter for abused women and their children.
The Highlanders are always looking for new members and new ideas for things to do and places to go.....so join us on the fourth Tuesday of each month - watch the Sunday bulletins for meeting time and place.
Members - All adult members of the congregation.
