The Board of Trustees is responsible for matters related to the properties of the Church Sanctuary, building and grounds at Main Street, Smithtown, and the Pastor's Manse in St. James.  The board is also responsible for investments of the church on behalf of the Session and congregation in support of our mission in the name of Jesus Christ.

Thanks to the generous support by many  church members of the Capital Campaign, the trustees have been able to get many items done this year.  The largest of these tasks was replacing the windows in the sanctuary and Narthex.  Most of the windows have been replaced and there are only a few more to be installed.  Tthe old windows have been carefully removed in one piece, and the Trustees plan to sell them of possible, as many of the windows still have the original panes of glass.  If anyone is interested, please contact one of the Trustees.  In June, Air conditioning was installed to cool the Sanctuary, Narthex and Parish Hall, and increased Sunday attendance was noted as a result.  Each area is controlled individually to maximize efficiency.  The east wall of the Narthex had the curling shingles replaced, the leaks sealed and the wall painted.  Some new cabinets were installed and the floors renovated in the Kitchen.  The floors in the CE building were also renovated, and wiring and fixtures in the hallway were updated.

The next tasks planned for the Capitol Campaign include more the mundane items of replacing the heating equipment for the Sanctuary/Narthex and the Education Building, and improving the drainage in the area of the sanctuary to direct rainwater away from the building and replace water damaged woodwork.  Again, the Trustees will be able to do this because of your generous support for the Capitol Campaign.

Using Trustee maintenance funds, repairs were made to the driveway and , because of building code changes, a Water Reverse Flow valve was installed.  The Trustees also refurbished one of the bathrooms at the manse.

The Board conducted a spring and fall cleanup, and thanks all those church members who participated in the clean-ups.

The Board gives special thanks to John Weisman for his accomplishments in keeping the church facilities clean and presentable, being the intermediator between the Board and the many contractors who are doing the Capitol Campaign work, and taking care of the many behind the scenes repairs and maintenance items both on the church grounds and at the manse.  The Trustees give thanks to Rick Belvin and Lynn Vandermeulen for serving as treasurers for the board.

As we look to the future, the Trustees will continue to carefully review the tasks that are yet to be done under the Capitol Campaign in order to determine the level of work needed and to maximize the results, while minimizing the cost.

Thanks to the many volunteers who have participated in the maintenance of the church properties and to the Board members who have served in 2006.
